SAN FRANCISCO'S JEWEL CITY: A MUSICAL PERSPECTIVE

Price: $15.95
Item Number: MM175
SUntitled Document
Produced with the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco for its monumental Jewel City exhibit, this surprisingly entertaining CD features a diverse collection of modern recordings of music and songs that were composed, published, or popular in San Francisco in 1915, including dance music, ragtime, show tunes, early Dixieland-style jazz, blues, military marches, and patriotic songs.  It includes works by such distinguished composers of the day as Irving Berlin, W.C. Handy, Jelly Roll Morton, Jerome Kern, John Phillip Souza, Béla Bartók, Victor Herbert, Joseph Lamb, Manuel de Falla, Camille Saint-Säens, and others.  The first class roster of performers heard on this disc includes Louis Armstrong, Doc Watson, Pearl Bailey, and Claude Bolling. This good-time CD will not disappoint!  Running Time: 67:04
